COVID-19 & Africa’s Medical Response

AFReG: African Forum on Religion and Government is hosting a series of webinars on the theme of “The Impacts and Implications of COVID-19 and Africa’s Response.” 

The first webinar brought together experts from different countries and backgrounds.  Questions/Areas of topics addressed by the panelists were

Theological Perspective on Medical Response

Dr, Tomlin Paul, Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies, Jamaica shared interesting and accurate information on COVID-19 globally, including transmission and incubation period, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and best practices in the Caribbean. His knowledge and experience stimulated thinking and addressed some misconceptions.

Dr. Florence Muindi, Founder and President of Life In Abundance International, brought some great insights from East Africa relating to Community Health approaches for reducing the spread of COVID-19. She also spoke on the Christian leaders’ perspective and role in community mitigation including knowing their identity, giving hope, being fearless and influencing others. 

AFReG Chairman, Prof. Delanyo Adadevoh, Founder and President of the International Leadership Foundation (ILF) presented the Theological Perspective on Medical Response to COVID-19. He offered insights on God’s commitment to our total well-being and spoke with an emphasis on the aspect of physical well-being. Christians are not exempt from the natural laws divinely instituted by God; God-likeness includes respecting the natural laws; God does not work miracles to cover for our irresponsibility.
